The commissioner was inspired by text from a scripture in Samuel "the soul of Johnathon was knit with the soul of David, and Johnathon loved him as his own soul". This was perfect theme to light the fire which led to this piece.

Man I love painting. I decided to work on a tangent series focusing on change. That is a heavy topic, and something that has been weighing on my mind. I love using the linear and spatial qualities within my paintings to explore this idea. Sometimes change is welcomed, sometimes it is forced. Sometimes it feels natural, sometimes it is painful. Regardless, it is amazing that in reflection, the change always makes sense and becomes so valuable.

Changed my routine this week. New canvas? My cute man Rob. I borrowed a sewing machine and went crazy. Goodbye and good riddance to all the boring clothes they make for men. Plus, he's gotta wear something cool on stage, right?

Back in the Studio

October has been a wonderful month. My "studio" (old dusty garage) is up and running! Believe it or not, my no-painting streak has lasted for about 10 months since the end of my final semester. The first few months without assignments was a heaven sent vacation... the last few months felt like torture. Painting has brought that bounce back to my step that I was starving for.

The first day back I felt totally overwhelmed with what to do. During my hiatus I realized I wanted to do something different than what I had been pursuing with my undgrad... but what to do? I pulled out all of my old sketch books, started thumbing through, and tearing things out that I liked and pinning them up. I was surprised to look up and find that my bulletin board was covered in similar looking sketches. It gave me a great place to start.

These are the first few I have finished for a series. I like them. I am wondering what will come next along the journey.

First stop, Hyde Park. People sunbathing, boating, reading - it felt kind of glamorous.

Pounds feel like pirate gold, therfore having pounds makes you feel cool and a little rebellious.

I first fell in love with Rothko in the San Fransico modern museum, it's been a love affair ever since. I had a mini print shipped home for my new walls.

Ireland: The Aran Islands

This day became our favorite day of our entire trip. Drew and Liz took us to a destination they had been hoping to joy for a long time. You reach the Aran Island by Ferry, and once we were there we rented bikes and rode the perimeter of the island together. We saw ruins, seals, cottages, animals, it was the complete Irish experience.

First stop, the Bunratty Castle. It was just minutes away from Drew and Liz'z house, as were many beautiful ruins, and I absolutely loved it. The area around it was restored to present the castle and the village that would have existed. I realize now that I somehow forgot to actually take photos of the castle... whoops! Figure Structure

Figure Structure was an amazing course. Mostly because we got our own skull to keep (remind me to introduce you to Floyd sometime) and also because I received great in depth instruction with the human body. Starting with the skull, we worked our way through almost every bone in the body. We learned muscles afterward and spread them over the bone structure. At the end of the course we finished by studying outer features in detail.
